preparing for upcoming disasters such as hurricanes, earthquakes, or tsunamis (USA.gov). In addition, FEMA offers a variety of programs to help disaster victims repair, rebuild, or replace their homes and belongings. FEMA has contributed to many disasters, including natural disasters, natural disasters such as natural disasters, earthquakes and floods, and terrorism. For example, the worst natural disaster in American story was the Galveston Hurricane of 1900. At the time of the disaster of 1900, the city of Galveston suffered further damage because it did not pre-build seawalls to protect the city. On September 8, 1900, the city suffered a hurricane with wind speeds estimated at 145 miles per hour, with estimated lives lost between 6,000 and 12,000 (cbs19.tv, 2020). It became the deadliest catastrophe in American story. After the hurricane had passed, FEMA educated the public on health services and how to minimize the loss of life from accidents. They provide underground shelters and help keep citizens safe during earthquakes, floods, or hurricanes. In addition, FEMA helps provide services in the event of a fire in a natural disaster area, prevent another accident, and provide a range of assistance to those affected. These activities involve the United States Fire Department (USFA). Hurricane Galveston destroyed more than 3,600 homes and caused approximately $700 million in monetary losses (cbs19.tv, 2020). FEMA awarded Texas approximately $2 million to improve Galveston stormwater drainage and pumping stations (FEMA.gov). Disaster recovery workers received FEMA disaster funds for victims. They stress that disaster funds received must be used only for disaster-related expenses for the displaced. FEMA prioritizes the distribution of life-saving and life-sustaining needs, including water, groceries, first aid, prescriptions, infant formula, diapers, consumables, durable medical equipment, personal care products, and fuel for transportation. FEMA has helped Texans secure financial stability, provide health care and medical assistance, and provide temporary shelter to those affected. Financial assistance was provided by organizing a donation camp, and the money raised would be used to rehabilitate the victims. In addition, FEMA has arranged medical assistance, including medicines and first aid kits, to provide medical relief to the injured.
